Used Motorhomes As Good As New!

We have been enjoying the lifestyle of RV'ing for many years, and know that there is great merit in considering used motorhomes as a viable alternative to purchasing new ones. We have always looked in to the used motorhomes market when considering trading up to a new vehicle. Over the years we have been able to save countless thousands of dollars which we have then been able to put towards upgrading our accessories an awnings. For us, this has always been an important consideration because we tend to drive to our destination and then make camp for several days or even longer, before venturing on to the next one.

Obviously one has to look out for some fairly obvious and not so obvious issues when looking at used motorhomes. Just like buying a car, you can easily find yourself the proud new owner of a lemon. When purchasing a fairly new motorhome chances are you will still be covered under warranty which is a great comfort. However, buying a not so new motorhome is when you need to thoroughly check it out before you commit to the purchase.

When looking at used motorhomes these are some of the points to consider:

1. Is it a one owner - this is always preferable as you should be able to get a maintenance history and the reasons for selling 2. Check the paintwork for any signs of repair - this will indicate if the motorhome has been involved in an accident 3. Get a qualified mechanic to check the engine as well as the chassis 4. Check everything - and we mean everything, electrics, water, oven, television, shower, toilet, water tanks etc. - You would be surprised at the number of people who fork out the money without checking these things and then have to get them repaired before their first trip. 5. Check the stabilizing jacks, are they in good condition and easy to use

These are just the major points to consider when looking at used motorhomes, but you do have to go with your instincts some of the time. If you are in any doubt always seek guidance from someone who has some experience in these types of vehicles. Newbies stand out a mile and unscrupulous sellers will be able to take advantage of them easily.

For a great many people, purchasing used motorhomes is the only way that they would ever be able to get into the RV market. Naturally the quality of used motorhomes varies greatly. A lot of people rush in and buy new only to discover that they are really not suited to this type of lifestyle after all. This then provides a great source of stock for eagerly waiting buyers. Naturally some types of used motorhomes are more popular than others. The Class A is the most sought after by families and those that have a reasonable amount of money to spend. The smaller Class B & C are highly prized by couples and those with very young children that are happy with the smaller living areas.

For families, the larger used motorhomes are the most sought after because they not only provide the most comfort, but they can easily sleep two adults and up to 4 children. When you take into consideration the extra space gained by awnings and the slide-out sections that open up the living space they become a luxury holiday home by the lake one year, or by the sea the following year, then the mountains..... It is normal for them to have kitchens, bathrooms centrally controlled heating and cooling as well as flat screen TV's. With all these built in, it is easy to see why these particular types of used motorhomes are so in demand.
