Our Motorhome Ownership...

Owning a motorhome is like having a first class ticket to any destination in the US, or even Canada or Mexico for that matter. This is certainly how we feel now that we belong to the owners rather than the renters circle. From the first time that we took a motorhome for a week to Yellowstone we were hooked. In fact we hadn't driven more than about 20 miles and we knew that this was going to be something for us. We both couldn't stop grinning. On our way to the Park we would stop for meals and morning and afternoon breaks and it was such a great feeling to be totally self sufficient, eating our own food and drinking our own made coffee.

Right from the beginning we made it a rule that we would not drive our motorhome for more than six hours in any one day. We refused to leave the "rat race" of work and then continue this pace on the road. This is more than a comfortable day's traveling for us and at the end of that time I'm left feeling fresh enough to drive several more hours, but this time is spent relaxing and taking in our surroundings. Usually we have a fair idea of our destination each day, that is unless we have a feeling that there may be a wonderful experience for us waiting on a different road. This is the beauty traveling with your motorhome, we can camp almost anywhere where we want.

Our motorhome is fitted with GPS, which sure takes a lot of the guesswork out of where we are and where we are going. We spent many years driving without one, but this one was a standard feature with our new coach motorhome. We still carry the national directory of campgrounds of course, this is a must for anyone on the road, as this has a wealth of information for all things related to RV's. Our A Class motorhome is only 30 feet long, just a baby compared to a lot of them. At least we are assured of always being able to camp at any of the parks, whereas some of the 40 footers are prohibited.

It really is the spontaneous travel that makes the motorhome so attractive to us. We both like visiting new places, and have done the overseas bit years ago. Lining up at the airport now with all the hassles you hear people talking about, would simply take all the fun away as far as we are concerned. I must admit, a few years ago, before we owned our first motorhome we did fly down to Phoenix and picked up a rental motorhome to travel around the Grand Canyon, but that was because we were time limited, and it was certainly before all the current airport security problems and delays.

What we are noticing nowadays is that there is a gradual trend towards more younger people purchasing a motorhome. Not so many years ago, we were either all silver haired or tourists. More and more families are now choosing a motorhome vacation because many of the parks have the amenities of a five star resort, except you bring your own room. It really is a great family time and it's good to see that more are actually realising the benefits. Even staying at this super motorhome parks the cost of the whole trip plus gas is still way below your average type of holiday.
