Which Is Best RV In America?

Who has the best RV amongst our merry little band of RV'ers is often the topic of light-hearted conversation. We all think our own RV is the best, of course. It all started many years ago, way back in the last century around the mid 80's when we were all very new to RV's. In fact back then they were not the cool vehicle that they are today. We would all go to the same lake and camping grounds each summer and over the years when our kids were growing up we developed a friendship that seems to have strengthened as the years have gone by. Most of our kids are having kids of their own now and we are spending a good part of the year traveling around catching up with old friends, traveling together and generally having a great time.

But who has the best RV? Well Eddie says his is best because he has a Class A RV, albeit one of the smaller ones. These people are all the same though, they think because they have that "A" tag they must be top of the list. We do tease him about his posh little diesel pusher, but he is the only one who thinks it is the best RV. We think it is just a glorified bus and we tell him that too. It's pretty cozy inside though, they had it customized when they bought it a couple of years ago. If you ask Eddie why he thinks his RV is the best he will tell you because everyone knows this type is the best. How convincing is that?

Old Gordy drives a B Class Dodge Sprinter like me, but his is their latest model. He naturally says his is the best RV because it is the newest, and definitely the fastest. If we are traveling together he insists on leading because we all slow him down. Their old one was built on the short wheel base and this new one is the longer version so they have never experienced so much comfort and room in a RV before. The interior is really spacious, every spare inch has been used and surprisingly you don't feel cramped when you sit at their table. It certainly is the best RV that they have ever owned, and one that always gets many admiring glances wherever we go.

Naturally I have to defend my old girl and call her the best RV of the three. She certainly is to me even though she is year older than Gordy's, but built on a long wheel base too. We had her customized and after many years of traveling in RV's we knew exactly what we wanted. We lowered the floor and with the raised roof there is plenty of head room right through. We have never found that we wanted more room, because we are usually sitting out under the awning anyway. This makes the best use of the RV because we have plenty of room for outdoor table and chairs, and we can comfortably sit with a glass of wine, watching the sunset and sharing a few stories. We can enclose all the walls making this area quite weatherproof and even though all our vehicles are winterized, we learnt long ago that it is important to have a dry area attached.

The debate will no doubt go on forever as to who has the best RV amongst us. We are all so very lucky that we have been able to get a RV that more than suits our needs and that none of us are hankering after something that is supposedly bigger and better. Something bigger for many people would mean better, but for me it would be downright inconvenient. The best RV is exactly what each of us have, but I won't tell them that because our friendly disagreements are far too much fun to do away with.
